The MADE in USA campaign tells the stories of six ‘makers,’ who have spent years perfecting their respective crafts.
There’s a very tangible and tactile nature to each of these makers’ professions: Bakers, Butchers, Barbers, Tailors, Painters, and Florists, that exemplifies the ethos of American made quality and craftsmanship.
As part of the “Made in USA” collection – and in honor of 2022 marking the 40th anniversary of the iconic 990 silhouette – Santis designed seasonal, limited-edition models of the 990v1, 990v2 and 990v3.
NEW BALANCE MADE in USA 990v1
In 1982, the New Balance 990 debuted after four years of research and development. It’s been synonymous with superior quality and good taste ever since. The MADE in USA 990v1 features a premium pigskin suede and mesh upper, with textured, hairy suede details, in a grey colorway inspired by the original 996.

The 990’s original designers were tasked with creating the single best running shoe on the market. The finished product more than lived up to its billing. When it hit shelves for the first time in 1982 the 990 sported an elegantly understated grey colorway, and a then unheard of three-figure price tag. For avid runners and ahead of the curve tastemakers alike, the 990 was a mark of quality and superior taste. There have been updates to the design since ’82, and more color options, but the 990’s aspirational status symbol aura has never changed. Simply put, the 990 is the shoe so good, that we’ve never stopped making it.
